New Haven Arms Henry Rifle serial number 7225 manufactured 1864. Patriotically engraved with crossed flags, shields, and additional oak leaves. Surrounded with a rope border and further embellished with the name "G.W. FULTON" on right side. Rifle is identified to Union Major, George W. Fulton of the 21st Missouri Volunteer Infantry. Major Fulton commanded troops at the Battle of Shiloh against General P.T. Beauregard on Sunday April 6, 1864. He also commanded troops in the hostilities at Tupelo, and the Battle of Corinth. He purchased this rifle for the sum of $45.00 commercially and had it embellished for and additional fee of $10.00 in 1864. G.W. Fulton later was elected Sheriff of Knox County MO. This rifle was the subject of a concise article in the German Gun collectors magazine DWJ in April of 1982 and a copy of the magazine as well as a translated copy of the article are included. Henry Rifle #7225 with the 24 - 1/4" octagon barrel with integral 15 round magazine. Frame of Gunmetal brass with period embellishment. Chambered for .44 Henry Flat Rimfire and fitted with American walnut stock with crescent brass buttplate and factory fitted for sling swivel. Matching numbers are observed on barrel, internally on lower tang as well as in the stock mortise and on the toe of the butt plate. CONDITION: Very good with the frame having attained a mellow mustard color with age. The stock is full sized and is very fine. The barrel is a dove grey and void of any finish. The bore is very fine and the mechanics operate properly. This is a wonderful fully identified Civil War Henry rifle and is totally fresh to the market and never previously offered for sale in the United States. TDW
