Artist unknown. Late 19th Century, France. Foundry "F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR.". This nice bronze sculpture based on the original life-size marble sculpture by Agasias, created at Ephesus in 100 BCE. The sculpture depicts a warrior in combat with a sword. This bronze example without sword or shield. We believe there never was either incorporated into this particular example. Offered with original wood plinth. Size: 26" T. x approx. 20" L. x 23" W. Condition: Original untouched olive green patina. Minor spot rubbing and light scratches. Otherwise undisturbed surface. Very good overall. Provenance: From a private New England collection.
