Lot consists of: three American brass-hilted eagle pommel sabers dating 1795 to 1820. (A) Horseman length blade with mounts showing silver wash appropriate for dragoon or mounted infantry officers. White bone grip with one tight hairline, carved with bands, channels, and diagonals. Hilt and languettes with floral castings. Blade blue and gilt. Floral and martial motifs. American eagle with motto ribbon. CONDITION: Good. Smooth metal, grey with brown spotting to upper portion, some in the blue with light pitting. Good edge and point. Upper mount is loose. (B) Gilt brass hilt. Oval reeded grip. Blue and gilt blade with floral and military motifs. Lower floral element on reverse has liberty cap on pole. Ring mounts on scabbard with upper stud. CONDITION: Fair. Medium to brass hilt with some bright gilt, but stains to hilt and mounts. Some are discolored lacquer that might clean. Blade is grey with brown rising in blue, along the edges and wider toward the tip. Scabbard solid, but with wear to finish. (C) Dark oval reeded grip. Slotted guard. Blade smooth metal, no etching. CONDITION: Good. Hilt tight. Blade bright with scattered brown and grey stains, a little freckling at very tip. Good edge and point. No pitting. Hilt with age patina. Tight. Scabbard fair with traces of silver wash on mounts. Open seam near tip and glue-repaired break. Representative swords of the early Republic. SR
