Bead front sight, dovetailed in pop-up rifle sight with matte tapering rib with "EDUARD KETTNER. KOLN" on milled area of rib. Dural dialytan 4x, serial number 49687, on claw mounts with pointed post and partial duplex reticle. Breeches trimmed for side clips and with engraving. Barrels with light line engraving. Schnabel forearm with engraved Deeley release, engraved with florals and geometrics. Iron marked "501" on interior, matching the last three of serial number. Dural receiver engraved with European deer and florals. Side clips, tang mounted rifle sight activator, safety mounted on left side of trigger guard. Ornamental side plates. Full length horn trigger guard and tang reaching to ebony buttcap with very small "W.B." in lozenge. Accompanied a leather leg of mutton case with compartment for stock, glass, and barrels. Consignor states the gun came from his Austrian born father who was part of a US Army Intelligence outfit tasked with interrogating high level German officers during World War II, and he returned with this gun as one of his keepsakes. Some documentation provided via email. CONDITION: Fine. Barrels with some minor marks from handling and operation. Frame is fine on exterior with some silvering at high points, interior silvering at assembly points, probably from a number of rough reassemblies. Stocks are excellent, with some minor handling marks but no discernible cracks. Action works appropriately when operated by hand, bores are excellent, bright and shiny with some minor roughness at breeches, rifle barrel is excellent with strong rifling. Glass is clear. Case is good, some stitching is loose and some straps are very fragile, exercise caution. A lovely dural frame drilling. EW
CORRECTION: Barrels are marked for 7mm Mauser, 8mm Mauser is a typo in description.
