Lot consists of: three American of the 1840-1860 period, all with gilt brass crested helmet pommels, chain guards, and brass scabbards. (A) Mother of Pearl grips, backstrap and understrap with wire binding, American eagle on downturned counterguard. Rudimentary upturned guard on reverse. Ames maker etched blade and stamped scabbard. 1832/34 style blade. CONDITION: Excellent. Vivid etching on frosted panels. Some slight grey spots. Floral, patriotic and martial etched motifs. No blade pad. Crossguard loose. Nice gilding to hilt and gold wash to scabbard. Mounts are floral, but American eagle in round panel on middle mount. Throat is loose. (B) Carved bone grips. Crossguard with five-pointed star in wreath, langets up and down. Blade is 1832/34 style with N.P. Ames firm name etched on obverse. CONDITION: Good. Hilt and scabbard are toned brass. Blade is good, but greying to dull silver with visible, but light etching. (C) Mother of Pearl grips. Helmet pommel faces outward. American eagle on counterguard. Vivid etching. Floral and martial motifs. American eagle. Liberty cap on pole. Engraved scabbard with carrying rings and stud. Condition: Very good. Chip to surface of Mother of Pearl above first wire strand. Wear to backstrap. Otherwise gilt is very good. A few grey spots to blade. Frosting greying slightly. Gold wash to scabbard very good, but some rubbing on upper edge near top mount where it would be grasped. Floral engraving on obverse near rings, crescent and dot border. A nice group of antebellum American swords. (SR)
