Lot consists of: two spadroon bladed swords with brass hilts, eagle pommels, bone grips and brass scabbards. (A) Cylindrical grip with straight grooves, floral and geometric motifs on guard, display of arms on downturned guard. Blue panel on each side of blade with flamboyant ends. Small gold washed drypoint etched motifs. One military on obverse, the rest floral. Scabbard is plain, not engraved. "J.H. Lambert / Philadelphia" retailer stamp on reverse scabbard throat. CONDITION: Slight looseness to hilt. Chipping upper rear edge of grip. Blue has good color, but brown light pitting terminal flame ends and scattered on upper bright metal of blade. Even aged patina to brass scabbard. No dents. Both rings in place. (B) Reverse 'P' guard with cast floral elements and eagle head terminal to quillon. Grooved bone grip. Plain backstrap connects with detailed ferrule. Languettes with palmette on reverse, helmet and sword obverse. Blue panel each side of blade with flamboyant ends, three small gold washed drypoint etched floral motifs and one military, with additional motif under languettes, rubbed on the reverse. CONDITION: Good. Blue is lustrous, gold wash is good. Blade is smooth metal and bright above the blue, but showing 4" deep grey section on obverse, small grey spots on reverse. Pad in place. Hilt with some play to it. Scabbard good, medium bright brass, both rings and palmette decorated stud in place. No dents, but slight split to flat throat collar, slight scratches and bright silver mark on reverse just above upper ring. A decent pair of American militia swords ca. 1820-1840.
