Lot consists of one unmarked 1850 staff and field sword and one Ames foot officer's sword. (A) Standard configuration staff and field with dark brass hilt, floral motifs and US in guard. CONDITION: Sharkskin grip wrap shows wear, slight shrinkage at base exposing wood and loss of color to white. Triple wire missing one border strand. No blade pad. Obverse etching foliate with arms mixed in, drums and flags at bottom, US shield, American eagle with shield, motto ribbon overhead. Reverse mixed martial and floral elements, US shield, US pennant, "US." No frosting visible. Etched motifs are visible, but a bit light. Slight grey spots on reverse. Metal smooth, dull silver, with good edge and point. Scabbard dark brown-blue, generally smooth, but with some brown spots coming up. Slight rubbing low on reverse. Brass throat, upper and middle mounts and drag. Mounts are dark with untouched age patina. rings in place. Engraved with floral motifs, eagle on drag and blank shield on top mount for inscription. (B) Ames foot officer sword in metal scabbard. Etched blade address at base on reverse of blade. Stamped address on reverse upper scabbard mount. CONDITION: Hilt shows 10-20% of gilt in places. Single twisted wire in place. Sharkskin shows only minor wear and good color. Blade frosting shows grey. Obverse with US flag, liberty cap and arms. A flying eagle with raised wings, arrows and olive branches, but no motto ribbon. Reverse with US between floral scrolls. Blade smooth, good edge and point, a dull silver in color with dark grey spots. Drag, middle mounts and throat with straight edges, simple line borders, medium patina, Ames address on reverse of upper mount. Scabbard body deep blue with brown freckling overall. A good pair of field and line officer's swords. SR
