Originally made by Simeon North as a model 1833 carbine which had a sliding bayonet. This gun has been period restocked in what appears to be either pine or cherry, certainly not in the traditional walnut as found in Northern arsenals. The "compartment" under the rear piece of the trigger guard is not present but is instead hand carved out to fit the hinged door. The sling ring was removed from the trigger guard. There is no cutout for the sliding bayonet, however the mechanism is still present on the bottom of the barrel. There is a large metal tang extending back from the receiver. The top of the hammer is sporting in style with an engraved head on it, commonly found on percussion shotguns. Appears to have been braised onto the original Hall hammer bottom. Many Hall carbines were held in Southern arsenals at the outbreak of the Civil War and were subsequently seized by Confederate forces. CONDITION: Metal retains a pleasing patina overall with some rust and light to moderate pitting. The markings on the breech block are no longer legible. Stock has some dings and handling marks, as well as some age cracks. The stock has had some extensive plastic wood repairs in the rear band area and appears to have had a large section replaced on the right side. Nipple is beat up. Bore is rusty with pitting. Action works well. GR
