Made by Robert McCormick between 1798 and 1801 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was thrown in debtors prison for defaulting on his contract. Flint lock marked "McCormick" at rear and "US" in front of the cock. Liberty cap proof on rear of smoothbore musket barrel. Walnut wood stock with iron furniture. Original iron ramrod. CONDITION: Overall aged patina with some applied finish. Metal parts have pitted appearance with a possible coat of old oil. Lock is original with replaced pan spring. Wood is solid with an old coat of oil. Wrist is broken and repaired and appears to have been done long ago. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
