A vintage pair of 12 bores, both with 28” barrels. Barrels have smooth concave game ribs with extended third fastener, ejectors and front bead sight. Ribs are marked one and two in gold and read “CHARLES HELLIS & SONS. 119 EDGEWARE ROAD. HYDE PARK. LONDON.W.”. Boxlock actions with visible case colors and engraved with scroll. Actions are fitted with third fasteners, double triggers, top levers and auto safes with “Safe” in gold. Left and right side of actions engraved “C. HELLIS & SONS”. Dark walnut with steel engraved side panels, tear drops, diamond English straight hand grips, semi-smooth checkering, long bottom tang, oval (shield) engraved “R.P.L.” and three quarter length checkered butts. Matching checkered splinter forends with Anson styled push button release. Escutcheons are engraved with gold number one and two respectively. Vintage - most likely original - double oak and leather case comes with the pair. CONDITION: Good. An honest pair of early, working English boxlock game guns. Barrel set A at 85% with some usage, handling and storage marks. Barrel set B at 85% with some usage, handling and storage marks. Actions are both sound and with some remaining case colors. Stocks are both good with handling marks. Forends are both good with semi-smooth checkering. Oak and leather case is good to fair with worn leather. CP ,
CORRECTION: A Bill of Sale was added detailing the shotguns when sold in 2014 and indicating manufacture in 1928 for R.P. Lydon.
