Gorgeous high art and custom engraved gun made with 30" Winchester Proof Steel barrels that have ventilated rib. Muzzles with gold rings and gold clubs on sides and breech ends of barrels with gold rings and gold scroll design and deeply cut scroll. Barrel flats with serial number and marked "SP", Winchester proof stamps and "Mod" and "Full" choke markings. Custom beavertail forend with fleur-de-lis and wave checkered pattern has fully engraved roll type release with gold line work and forend iron is fully engraved with scroll and gold outlines with club in gold. Blued action is beautifully engraved and gold inlaid. Right side with large pointer flushing two gold quail surrounded by scroll and gold outline. Bottom of action with near full coverage scroll and gold inlaid doves in tree with gold circle border. Engravers signature "MAINS" noted on bottom game scene, which is the mark of noted engraver Bill Mains. Left side with gold inlaid pointer flushing two large golden grouse with gold inlaid border pattern. Trigger guard with gold inlaid woodcock and accents. Custom flame grained American Walnut buttstock is checkered in fine fleur-de-lis pattern with gold inlaid capped pistol grip with checkering that extends behind the grip in wave pattern, and grip is a diamond shape. Pistol grip cap is scroll engraved with gold inlaid initials "RHL". Buttstock has thick comb and small Monte Carlo and terminates with a thin leather covered pad. Housed in a beautiful brown oak and leather case with Connecticut Shotgun Mfg. Co. label. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this gun as having been ordered new as having been made in 1941 for Frank Huschke, and then returned by General John Greer of Rockland Delaware in 1949 for a complete rebuild. See accompanying letter for additional information. CONDITION: Extremely fine as custom finished retaining nearly all of its custom finish to both wood and metal. Only very minor handling marks noted and very minor staining on gold border work. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. Case is excellent with minor rubs and minor veneer chipping. JSL
