Rare and desirable Experimental Remington Rand Series 1911A1. These guns were built as a means to potentially improve Remington's manufacturing capabilities. Remington continued development of manufacture throughout their government contracts to expedite and reduce cost right up to the end of the war. Experimental guns such as this were meant for internal company use only, hence the lack of government acceptance stamps. Approximately 100-150 of the tool room examples were produced and were later used as retirement gifts for Remington employees after wartime production ceased. Marked "Remington Rand INC/Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A" on the slide. S P marked barrel. Black plastic pistol grips. High polish blued finish. Magazine is marked "L" indicating Little production (subcontractor for Colt). CONDITION: Overall very good. Gun retains 75% of its original finish, showing signs of potential holster wear and scratches on the slide. Grips are excellent with light handling marks. Magazine is very good with light wear. An interesting piece of Remington 1911A1 development history. TDW
