Lot consists of (A) C. Newman ball, light amber color, with crosshatch design and a smooth equatorial line with "C. Newman" for Carlton Newman. Jagged spout. (B) Unembossed deep amber ball, with seven horizontal rings and a crossed design at base. (C) Ira Paine ball with equatorial "IRA PAINE'S FILLED BALL PAT. OCT .23 1877." There is an additional "B" over "Oct". Three piece mold lines, jagged spout, rich amber hue. (D) Ira Paine ball with equatorial "IRA PAINE'S FILLED BALL PAT. OCT .23 1877." What may have once been a "B" over "Paines". Lettering considerable softened. (E) Ira Paine ball with equatorial "IRA PAINE'S FILLED BALL PAT. OCT .23 1877." "F" above "Paines". Lettering softened. Three piece mold marks. Filled with feathers and other detritus of recent vintage. (F) Unembossed deep blue ball, with seven horizontal rings, base was the turn off and shows. Jagged spout. (G) Sand on ball with "PAT SEPT 25TH 1877", date corresponds to date patent given to William Butterworth, Corning Glass-Works. Two mold seam, jagged spout. (H) Clear glass ball with two mold seam. Patent date attributes to Charles Tatum, NY. Some interior staining. (I) Unembossed amber boss with six vertical ridges and a central mold line. Some internal staining, and glass slag visible on one edge of mold. (J) J. Palmer O'Neill & Co, Pittsburgh. Two mold seam. Strong embossing, somewhat soft. This ball hit something or was rapped by a sharp strike a long time ago, a spiderweb crack is emanating from the strike point, which is missing its piece of glass. Exercise extreme caution to prevent further damage. CONDITION: Balls are good to very good for glass of this age, with no discernible damage except as noted. Balls have various levels of bubbling to glass. EW
