Serial number 13826 located on lower tang, inside buttstock. Matching serial number observed on inside buttstock at top tang slot. Manufactured in 1866. Henry marked 24" octagon barrel with full length magazine tube. Early style magazine retainer with band pinned in place and screwed to barrel. Fluted forearm without cap, also pinned in place. Barrel marked two lines "HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16, 1860./KINGS-PATENT-MARCH 29, 1866". Dovetail blade front sight, Henry style ladder/slide adjustable rear barrel sight graduated and marked "900" at top of elevator with wide "V" notch slide. Brass "flatside" Henry style receiver with round top at barrel. Flat fire blue loading gate. Buttstock mounts in Henry fashion with two screws on top tang and one screw on bottom tang. Receiver mounted saddle ring. CONDITION: Fine overall. Barrel and magazine tube a medium grey-brown patina overall. Bore is fine with moderate pitting and good rifling. Minimum rounding of edges on receiver, cleaned at some point showing light to medium patina. Buttstock and forearm refinished with nice figure and grain. Buttstock broken at wrist and repaired. Overall, an honest and above average example of a rare First Model 1866 rifle. -MKS-
