Three stage, smoothbore barrel with iron front and rear sights. Flat lockplate with beveled edges and scroll engraving. Early lock with detached pan. Brass furniture in the classic Bucks County, Pennsylvania style including a horizontally hinged one piece patchbox with a large script "JS" and an engraved propeller design. Curled Bucks County trigger and classic Bucks County trigger guard. Bucks County sideplate with beveled edges and triangular finial at back. Figured maple stock of classic, early Bucks County form with elongated, high relief cheekpiece. Engraved with symmetrical design around ramrod entry ferrule and barrel tang, as well as incised stylized Fleur-de-Lis around lock and sideplate. There are incised 'C' scrolls on both sides of the wrist and incised propeller design above the cheekpiece and large 'C' scrolls behind the cheekpiece. There is also a 'C' scroll in front of the trigger guard finial. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark, pitted surface and barrel was probably shortened during the period of use. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration but does not hold on cock. Half of sideplate (front portion) is absent. Brass shows some wear and retains a mustard patina. Patchbox does not latch shut. Several areas on both sides of the forend have been replaced, as well as some other slivers including the toe of the buttstock. Toeplate is absent. There is also a piece replaced between barrel tang and lockplate. Carving shows some wear. Ramrod is a replacement. A worthy candidate of a good, professional restoration as signed Bucks County rifles are extremely rare. DMG
