Sharps model 1868 carbine, featuring a patchbox. Originally a percussion gun made for the Civil War, it was converted afterwards to cartridge by the US Government for issuance during the Indian Wars of 1870's-1880's. Wide three groove rifling. "E.A.W." inspectors mark on left side of barrel. Faint cartouche. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall with clear markings. Some areas of minor pitting. Wood has been cleaned and lightly refinished. The patchbox cutout has been deepened at some point. Bore has strong rifling with light pitting. Fine mechanical function. GR
