The Model 1864 Joslyn breech loading carbine is stamped "Joslyn Firearms Co / Stonington Conn. / 1864". Has knob type pullout latch for breech block. Iron fittings. 8,000 of these were purchased by the U.S. government and 4,500 were available for private purchase. This is a private purchase example with no inspector stamps. Features full round barrel, dovetail front sight, single barrel band, two leaf folding military type rear sight, saddle ring and bar, walnut one piece stock. Back of the block is stamped "B. F. Joslyn's Patent, October 8th, 1861, June 24th, 1862". CONDITION: Barrel retains virtually all of its factory blue finish with soft patina coming through the surface. Lock retains approximately 60% case colors with traces on block and hammer. Walnut stock is excellent with a few of the usual marks. Screws retain some of their nitre blue finish. Fine working condition. Fine, sharp, well defined three groove barrel. DB
