Manufactured 1864 to 1865; 3,000 of which had 30" barrels. Manufactured by Meriden Manufacturing Co., Connecticut. The majority were issued to the state of Kentucky Home Guard to protect Sherman's supply lines. The inventor of this rifle was Charles Parker of Parker Shotgun fame. The rifles are stamped "KENTUCKY" on left side of the swivel breech. Left side of frame is stamped "MERIDEN MANUFG CO. MIDDLEDON, CONN". Upper tang is stamped "TRIPLETT & SCOTT PATD DECEMBER 6 1864". Features round barrel, dovetail front sight, folding ladder rear sight, walnut forend, single band, walnut buttstock, sling swivels. CONDITION: Barrel is a dull blue patina. Swivel breech is a smooth blue-brown patina. Frame retains 30% case colors on left side, 10% on top and 10% on right. Has the usual crack in wrist that almost all of these had, which was a design flaw. Near mint, strong rifle bore. The supply line Home Guard history is about the only documented use during the Civil War. DB
