Well stamped with the full firm marking of "THOMAS GRISWOLD & Co/ NEW ORLEANS" in the left side of the blade. The "T" and "o" are not present due to weakness at the edges of the stamp. Proper stopped fuller on 35" blade. The very tip of the blade has been bent over slightly. Several flaws in blade as is common on these swords. Twisted brass wire over leather wrapped polished wood handle. Brass hilt & pommel have the distinctive Thomas Griswold floral patterns relief cast into them. This sword would have originally been housed in a completely brass scabbard which is unfortunately missing. CONDITION: Blade retains a nice even age look to it with some areas of very light surface rust and minor pitting. Above average condition for a blade missing the scabbard. Brass guard has been lightly cleaned a long time ago and is starting to have a pleasing patina return to it. There is an old braised repair to 1 of the branches on the guard. Leather has some loss on the handle, the wire is intact. GR
