Benjamin Smith II and Benjamin Smith III, London 1817. Of campana form, with a cast band of grapevine under the rim, the bottom chased with acanthus and with two handles, and on a molded foot; the domed lid chased with bands of laurel and acanthus and set with a cast figure of a charioteer. The front engraved with a coat of arms; the opposite side engraved as the Virginia Gold Cup (1926 to 1933) with recipients’ names. The edge of foot engraved with retailer’s mark of William Gray, Bond Street.
