In the style of an 1814 rifle, but much higher quality. Possibly an attempt for an earlier Tryon contract. The rifle has "Tryon Philada" stamped on the octagon rifled barrel with muzzle turned for a socket bayonet. Rifle sights, military style sling swivels and "Tryon Philad" military style marked flint lock with brass pan and single trigger. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including four-piece "pineapple" finial patchbox and toeplate. Patchbox release in toeplate. German silver thumbpiece wrist inlay and barrel escutcheon plates with flat keys. Comes with "US" marked socket bayonet and letter of authenticity. CONDITION: Overall good condition with light usage marks. Metal has some peppery pitting and has faded to a plum color. Brass has a mellow mustard color patina. Wood looks to have original finish with a raised grain effect due to the composition of the wood. Good mechanics with no obvious restoration or alterations. Bayonet finish has turned plum. DLM
