This rifle features full, heavy octagon barrel, German nickel sporting front sight, Lawrence folding rear sight, walnut forend, pewter tip, walnut stock, brass patchbox and buttplate. Barrel is stamped "SHARPS RIFLE MANUFG CO HARTFORD CONN". Tang is stamped "SHARPS PATENTED 1848". Right side of frame is stamped "SHARPS PATENT 1852". Inside patchbox is extra nipple and spare part. CONDITION: Barrel is a smooth mix of blue-brown freckled patina with lots of blue showing through. Sharp edges and legends. Frame, lever, hammer, etc. are a soft, smooth light brown patina. Screws on patchbox retain generous amounts of original blue. Walnut stocks are excellent with just a couple of minor dings here and there. Strong, well-defined, sharp lands and grooves. Fine action. With less than 3,500 manufactured, this is an extremely handsome example. DB
