WWII era K98 rifle manufactured by Steyr Daimler-Puch in 1940. Receiver is marked "660/ 1940" with Steyr "WaA623" waffenamts on the right. Matching numbers include the receiver, barrel, bolt, floorplate, trigger guard, follower, bolt stop housing, rear sight, and buttplate. Stock and handguard appear to be a forced match, as the stock waffenamt of "WaA26" is of early Mauser or Berlin Lubecker manufacture, and the serial number suffix "h" does match the receivers suffix of "d". Barrel bands are force matched, with the front barrel band being sanded and renumbered and the rear being overstamped over the previous number. CONDITION: Metal components retain pleasing amounts of blue finish, with areas of thinning showing through with a pleasant patina. The barrel towards the muzzle has turned a gray patina. Bore is bright, showing cleaned areas of pitting and good rifling throughout. Stock has been refinished, retaining traces of original stampings and showing scattered indentations all around. Overall a nice WWII K98 rifle. MW
