Gunsmith N. Gilon made this Navy revolver serial number 9407 in Liege Belgium. The frame is marked "NG" just below the left recoil shield. Barrel is marked two lines: "Colt /Patent". Cylinder is marked in script: "Colts Patent" with a coach and horse roll-die scene rather than the typical W.L. Ormsby Naval battle scene. Overall revolver is slightly smaller in size and weight with a different grip angle than a Colt manufactured 1851 Navy. Belgium proof marks on barrel and cylinder. Bottom of backstrap is marked "11 Mai 1865" which possibly represent a manufacture date. No evidence exist the gun was manufactured under a Colt license. Other revolvers built by N. Gilon are discussed in the book "Colt Brevete Revolvers" by" Marcot and Paxton. CONDITION: Excellent overall with 90+% original blue on barrel and cylinder. Most original case color on frame. Excellent one piece walnut grips with original varnish showing little wear. Screws are unmolested. Bore is very fine. PROVENANCE: From the esteemed collection of Peter Blatter. -MKS-
