Serial number 48574, manufactured in 1852. Serial numbers match on all major component, no number present on wedge and loading lever. Engraved in an early Hartford style featuring scrolls with hatch line background. Scroll engraving on barrel, frame, hammer, trigger guard, and backstrap. Wolf head motif on hammer. Hand engraved address "SAM'L COLT" in script on barrel. "COLTS PATENT" hand cut in a banner on left side of frame. One piece burl walnut grips with piano finish. Housed in a contemporary "French fitted" case complete with powder flask, bullet mold, and percussion cap tin. CONDITION: Revolver has been over cleaned to metal with an overall light grey patina. Light cylinder scene. Approximately 65-70% original silver plating on trigger guard traces of silver on backstrap. Veneer cracking on case lid. Powder flask showing dents with a seam separation on one side. Bullet mold showing light original blue with scattered dents and oxidation. Overall an attractive early engraved 1849 Pocket Model. -MKS-
