Serial number 180716, manufactured in 1860. Matching serial numbers on all major components including wedge. Punch dot either below or above serial numbers indicating factory engraving and/or special finishes. 4" barrel with two-line marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT / HARTFORD CT." Hand engraved "COLTS PATENT" on left side of frame. Classic Gustave Young style engraving with Germanic scrolls with punch dot background. Stylized wolf head motif on hammer, bird head on left side of barrel lug. Scroll engraving on barrel, frame, hammer, trigger guard, and backstrap. Blue with case hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever. Deluxe one piece burl walnut grips with piano finish. Housed in a walnut partition fitted case with correct bullet mold, powder flask, and Eley's marked percussion cap tin. CONDITION: Fine overall with approximately 20% original blue on barrel with balance a pleasing brown patina. Traces of original blue on cylinder, mostly a brown patina. Strong roll die stagecoach holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT" with serial number on 5-shot cylinder. Traces of case color on frame, loading lever, and hammer, mostly a grey/brown patina. 15-20% original silver plating on backstrap and trigger guard. Most all piano finish remaining on burl walnut grips with minimum wear. Case is excellent showing moderate wear. Powder flask is excellent with no dents and pleasing patina. Bullet mold is clean with scattered original blue turning a brown patina. Overall a fine deluxe engraved set. -MKS-
