Likely made around 1945, this rare Skeet Grade Model 21 was made with original 26" Winchester proof steel barrels that have matted rib and red front bead and small steel mid bead. Barrel flats with serial number and Winchester proof marks. Beavertail forend checkered in wave pattern on sides and elongated diamond on center with roll type forend opener which is unengraved and blued. Left barrel tube marked "WINCHESTER 20 GAUGE / 2-3/4" CHAMBER". Blued action is unengraved and trigger plate is engraved "SKEET" at bottom. Made with single selective trigger, auto ejectors, and non-auto safety. The capped pistol grip buttstock is checkered in point pattern through the wrist and terminates with its original "Winchester" brand red pad which is hardening. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain about 80% original toning blue which has turned a beautiful plum color. Action retains about 70% of its original blue, mostly on sides, trigger plate has toned to gray. Stocks are sound and retain some original varnish with a coat of finish added for preservation and the stocks show some scattered handling marks and scratches. Checkering is original and shows some beginning thinning at wrist. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. These early Skeet Grade small bore guns are hard to find! PROVENANCE: From the Carl Balderson Jr. Estate Collection. JSL
