Probably circa 1810, this blunderbuss has a brass three-stage barrel with heavily swamped cannon muzzle. The top flat is inscribed "London" near the breech and the left flat is stamped with Birmingham proofmarks. There is a spring-activated triangular bayonet that is engaged when the release mounted on the barrel tang is pulled back, locking it into place. The lock is inscribed "Joseph Richards" in the center and has been converted to the percussion configuration. There is a sliding half-cock safety at the tail. The brass furniture includes a two piece engraved sideplate, trigger guard terminating in a pineapple finial, and buttplate with the tang engraved with a bow and quiver. The stock is of partially figured walnut and has shaped checkering around the wrist. Complete with period, possibly original brass-tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a mostly mustard patina with some areas of darker patina. Bayonet functions well. Lock functions well and is crisp, retaining a spotted grey patina, sliding safety has a broken section that is absent. Stock shows staining and minor scattered marks from use. An attractive blunderbuss. DMG
