Manufactured by the E.G Lamson and Company in Windsor, Vermont in 1865 with a total production of approximately 1,000. This was the first bolt action metallic cartridge arm accepted for U.S. military issue. Receiver marked on top 3-lines: "W PALMER/PATENT/DEC.22,1863" Lockplate is marked forward of hammer, 3-lines: "U.S./E.G. LAMSON & CO./WINDSOR VT." and at rear of lockplate: "1865". 20" round barrel with small blade front sight and fold down leaf rear barrel sight. Chambered in .50 caliber rimfire. One piece straight grain walnut stock and forearm. Barrel held with a single barrel band. Blue with case hardened lockplate, hammer, triggerguard, and barrel band. Saddle ring with bar mounted to left side of stock. Government inspection cartouch located on left side of stock between the saddle ring and crossbolt. Sub-inspection marks observed in all proper locations. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Barrel is a clean grey/brown patina overall. 40+% bright case color remaining on lockplate. Balance a grey/brown patina. Stock is very fine showing modest wear with scattered dings and dents. Bore is excellent and bright. Action is tight and crisp. -MKS-
