This gun is one of the .50 caliber type II rifles produced by H.C. Lamb of Guilford County, North Carolina. The type II rifles are distinguished by having an 1841 "Mississippi" style brass side plate and are in .50 caliber. Later production guns were made in .577. Single piece trigger guard. As with all Lamb rifles, this gun has a 7" octagonal section at the breech. 33" barrel. The rear brass barrel band is properly marked with a "U" on the top. There is a "P" stamped into the top of the brass butt plate. The front band, nose cap, stock from the rear band forward, wood above the lock, approximately 4 - 1/2" of the barrel from the muzzle back, mainspring screw, and some internal lock parts have been restored. Very well done. This gun would have originally had a bayonet lug on the side of the barrel, however due to the forward section of barrel having been replaced, there is no lug on this gun. Ramrod appears to be period. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina and is very good as having had some restoration done. Wood is very good with some dings and handling marks, original stock showing areas of having been lightly cleaned. Barrel has some pitting as does the lock. Bore has strong rifling in the original section of barrel, the added piece has a different rifling pattern and doesn't quite match up. Missing the front sight blade. Fine mechanical function. An incredibly hard gun to find in any condition. GR
