Approximately 850 No. 1 Volcanic Pistols with 3 - 1/2" barrels were manufactured between 1857-1862. Brass frame with blue barrel and integral magazine tube. Case hardened hammer and lever. Two piece varnished walnut grips. This example, serial number '51' features light scroll engraving on the frame with border work. Serial number '51' has been observed on right side of loading lever, on inside surface of both left and right sideplates, inside grips on left side of frame, and on inside surface of both grip panels. CONDITION: Fine overall with traces of original blue on barrel, turning a gunmetal grey patina overall. Barrel has been worn smooth on top barrel flat and the address is not legible. Frame is excellent with a soft butterscotch color patina. Grips are excellent showing most the original varnish with modest wear. Straight rifled bore is excellent with strong grooves and lands. Action functions properly, though a bit "sticky". Overall a very nice example of a scarce model. -MKS-
