Retailer marked for John Blanch and Sons, Gracechurch, London, across top strap. Diminutive dovetailed front sight, rear sight integral with frame. Loading tool attached via screw on left side, marked 93 on inside flat. Barrel integral with frame with some light engraving around muzzle. Frame finely engraved with scrolls that just begin to start onto the barrel flats, left side of frame stamped with Tranter's Patent marking. Right side engraved with "Adams's & Tranter's Patent No 17786T". Push on cylinder safety with appropriate cuts in cylinder. British proof marks on cylinder, which has a very fine roped border around forward edge; rear of cylinder marked 93. Checkered wooden grip. Buttcap and trigger guard engraved en suite with frame. Accompanied by a wooden case with John Blanch and Son paper label in lid and accessories comprising a nipple wrench, powder flask, bullet mold marked "54" for .44 caliber, threaded cleaning rod with three attachment tips, old Eley Bros cap tin. CONDITION: Very good, retaining copious amounts of blue, with flaking around the cylinder and top strap, some rubbing in the rammer channel. Patination from use around the top strap and breech. Scattered minor nicks and dings scattered about, commensurate with use. Standard scratch on bottom flats from cylinder pin. Wood grips are very good, complete, with wear commensurate with metal. Action works appropriately, bore is very good with visible pronounced rifling but oxidation consistent throughout and a few deeper areas. Accessories are very good with rubbing from case. Nipple wrench has some oxidation at tip, cap tin essentially tin, mold with a lot of blue left on sprue cutter, brass darkening. Paper label extensively foxed, stained. Case with some wear commensurate with age. A highly attractive Adams & Tranter in what appears to be its original retailer case. EW
