Evans Repeating Rifle Company, Mechanic Falls, Maine, lever action sporting rifle, made between 1873-1879. The sporting rifles are believed to have been assembled the E.G. Ridout & Company in New York and G.W. Turner and Ross of Boston Mass. from parts left after the Evans company filed bankruptcy. Octagon barrel marked "EVANS SPORTING RIFLE" on top flat. Chambered in .44 Evans centerfire cartridge. Fold down elevator rear barrel sight. Full radius brass blade front sight. Two piece walnut stock and checkered forearm. CONDITION: Very good, blue-brown patina overall with scattered freckling. Forearm is cracked on right side. Bore is dark. Action operates properly. -MKS-
