These are very difficult to find guns. The contract was for 2,500 with only 1,019 having been actually delivered. Marked ahead of the hammer with an eagle clutching arrows over US and "WESTPHAL/ PHILADA" vertically at the rear of the lock. Marked on top of the barrel with a large "P" and a smaller "A", eaglehead over CT in a depressed oval on the left of the barrel at the breech. "V/ MTW/ V" inspectors mark on the stock opposite the lock. Has "DFIHR" carved in large letters into the left side of the butt. Original flintlock configuration with spring retained bands. CONDITION: Has a pleasing patina overall, having been lightly cleaned a long time ago. Markings are good. Wood has been cleaned and shows its age and wear. There are some age cracks in the butt and an areas of wear on the left side of the wrist. Small piece of wood missing front the left side at the trigger guard retaining pin. There is a minor crack in the trigger guard tang at the front screw hole. Fine mechanical function. GR
