E. Robinson had a contract for 30,000 rifled-muskets delivered between 1863 and 1865. This gun has the second and later style lock marking with "E. ROBINSON" in an arc over "NEW YORK". Dated 1864 at the rear of the lock with a matching 1864 date on the top of the barrel. Small "D" inspectors mark under the VP eaglehead proof on the left side of the barrel. Nice clear cartouches with a "W.P." inspectors mark at the rear of flat opposite the lock and a small "x" behind the trigger guard tang. CONDITION: Fine with a light coat of dried grease on all metal surfaces. Markings are sharp and clear. Wood is very good with some light dings and handling marks, minor crack at the front of the lock cavity. Stock may have been lightly cleaned at some point. Minor repair to the right of barrel tang that was done a long time ago. Fine mechanical function. Bore is fine with sharp rifling. An above average example of one of the scarcer contract muskets. GR
