Large half moon front sight, notch rear sight integral with top strap of frame. Polished hammer. Top strap engraved "Cogswell & Harrison 223 & 224 Strand, London". Next flat stamped with "450" and proof marks. Muzzle lightly engraved. Left side of frame with stamped "Tranter's / Patent" over serial number, 40856. Tranter's Patent stamp on lug holding ejector system and frame screw in place. Trigger guard with partial lined border engraving. Checkered wood grip. Accompanied by what is likely the original case for this gun with Cogswell and Harrison paper label in lid and green baize lining. Accessories comprise C & J.W. Hawksley oil bottle, screw driver, and cleaning rod. CONDITION: Fine, retaining most of the high polish barrel blue. Frame has extensive flaking but still retains significant amounts of blue with more in protected areas. Cylinder case colors have faded out, leaving only the barest traces of evidence. Action works appropriately, as does ejector rod. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with a few spots of minor oxidation. Grips are excellent, with no cracks. Buttcap gunmetal grey. Accessories are good, with some light wear commensurate with age. Case itself is very good, with exception given to the lock, where an enthusiastic owner appears to have locked themselves out, resorting to a screwdriver as a key, damaging both wood and lock. EW
