John Altland worked in Adams County, Pennsylvania circa 1830. This rifle features full curly maple stock with raised floral pattern carving behind cheekpiece. Incised pattern around tang and behind tailpipe. Nicely carved forestock molding. Silver thumbpiece inlay and oval silver cheekpiece inlay with "Hunter's Star" design. Brass furniture with engraved four piece patchbox with engraved sideplate. Flat brass barrel keys. Original flintlock plate with percussion conversion controlled by double set triggers. Full octagon barrel with rifle sights signed in script "John Altland". Comes with original hardwood ramrod with worm style cleaning jig. CONDITION: Gun has overall aged patina with traces of original finish. Metal parts have aged finish with barrel being shortened approximately 1" when converted to percussion. Approximately 2' of the forestock have been replaced with no other visible repairs. Lock functions but is a little sticky. Bore is poor. Pleasing gun worthy of further restoration. DLM
