Produced from 1917 through 1919 with a US Government contract for slightly over 163,000 guns. The Smith & Wesson Model 1917 .45 ACP service revolver with 5-1/2" barrel, blue finish and smooth walnut service grips. Capable of using .45 ACP, .45 Auto Rim or 45 ACP in half-moon clips. Marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY " on bottom of barrel. Marked "US ARMY MODEL OF 1917 No 57169"on butt. Small Springfield Armory Eagle inspection on left side of frame and on bottom of barrel. Ordnance bomb inspection is found on left side of frame at top. Smooth walnut grips are numbered internally in pencil. CONDITION: Very fine with over 97% factory blue finish remaining with a slight amount of loss on sides of barrel from holster use. Bore is very fine as are chambers. Action operates properly. Grips are very good with an area of chipping and bruising on bottom of butt. A very fine 1917 US Service revolver. TDW
