This rare little variation was only produced in 1887. Serial number 87 is found on butt, rear of cylinder, barrel and internally on right grip. Nickel finish, five shot with 3-1/4" barrel. Two piece Smith & Wesson checkered factory grips. Unique (Z-Bar) opening and closure latch was utilized on the first 5,250 guns produced. This was quickly replaced with the traditional toggling latch of later production and models. Rarely found at all but this example is a two-digit (87) serial number and is in stellar condition. CONDITION: Extremely fine with evidence of test firing only. Bore and mechanics are as new. The nickel finish remains nearly perfect with some micro-scratches from storage. The grips are equally fine. The case colored trigger is as new the trigger guard is starting to fade or turn slightly plum. TDW
