Manufactured by Robert Johnson in Middletown, Connecticut and dated 1840 on lock. 8-1/2" round bright steel barrel with swivel rammer. One piece walnut stock with vivid US inspectors cartouches and all iron mountings. Remains in original flint configuration. Most of these were converted to percussion for the Mexican War and then later utilized in the Civil War. CONDITION: Good as completely cleaned. Top jaw of cock and tensioner are later replacements and mainspring is soft as has been repaired. Marking are legible after prior cleaning. Stock is very fine with wood repair above lock mortise and minor material loss at barrel band extension. Bore is dark. TDW
