Manufactured 1872 through 1874. Chambered for the .44 American cartridge (44 S&W). 8" barrel with 1.42" cylinder. Factory nickel finish with smooth walnut grips. Barrel address "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA PAT. JULY 10, 60 JAN 17 FEB 17 JULY 1165 & AUG 29 64". Serial number 30644 found on butt while assembly number 705 is found on side of grip strap internally, cylinder rear of barrel and latch. Smooth walnut grips have a contemporary serial number written in pencil internally. CONDITION: Very good with over 80% nickel finish remaining on barrel 90% finish on cylinder and 60% finish remains on frame. Bore has strong rifling with slight corrosion in grooves. Action operates properly. Grips are cracked internally but not visible from exterior and are slightly undersized from a prior restoration. A very attractive and early Smith & Wesson American. TDW
