Deeply fluted barrel with horizontally dovetailed front sight with bead on horizontal bar. Barrel signed on one flat "ERNST BAUER", "PRIMA GUSSSTAHL" on another, and finally "BAD~EMS" on third. Bottom of barrel with BUG proofs and 7.7mm proofs, and an unidentified stamping that vaguely resembles the Kiel proof, "CB" date code for 1921. Barrel has 3" length of serrated silvering, most likely from a barrel vice. Sling swivel on bottom of barrel. Typical slim schutzen forend held by a singular key, and a 3" crack on left side that someone has attempted to repair once before with wood glue. Falling block action in the Aydt style but unmarked except for serial number and stylized E on face, and "PERFEKT" on top of breech. Extensively engraved with florals on punch dot backgrounds, with dominant scene on left of a woman (Artemis?) preparing to throw a javelin with a dog at her heel in the midst of a forest scene in high relief, and right side scene depicting a hunter and a young boy in a similar wooded scene, also high relief. Buchel reverse set trigger trigger. Ergonomic trigger guard with horn filler in bottom loop. Standard massive marbled European walnut stock with point pattern checkering through wrist, and some light engraving at buttplate, which has stabilizing prong. Numbered to match barrel and action at bottom of buttplate. Sling swivel near toe. CONDITION: Very good and highly attractive. Barrel retains the vast majority of its finish with some marks from handling and use. Barrel vice marks as mentioned above. Front sight has detached from right side of posts, exercise caution. Wood is very good with numerous scratches, nicks, and bumps, forearm cracked as mentioned above; revarnished at one point. One crack at tang. Wood proud to metal. Buttplate with some pitting. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with well defined lands and grooves. EW
