European, Ca. 1750. Probably Flemish and representing the Christ Child, certainly by a master carver. Beautiful face with polychrome painting and inset glass with painted pupilled irises eyes, delicately carved ears, open/closed mouth, rosy cheeks, bald head. Wood body fully jointed at neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees (one finger missing, one repaired, small possible repair on back of neck). Beautifully dressed in seemingly original (through probably reworked through the centuries) elaborate outfit of satin, brocade, lace, metallic braid, gemstones, pearls and sequins. A very desirable museum piece, seldom does a figure of this quality and age come on the market. Blue Ribbon Winner at UFDC National Exhibit 2000.
