This fine swivel breach rifle features twin rifled octagonal barrels, separated by a German silver rib on both sides, one side mounted with a ramrod. Both front sights are of German silver and both rear sights are notched buckhorn sights. There is professional scroll engraving on both sides of the sights on both barrels. Breeches are engraved en suite. The breech of one barrel is stamped "REMINGTON" the top of the other barrel is stamped "CHAS ROTH WILKES BARRE". Both bolsters are engraved with a star. Barrel swivel release is an iron button, spring activated opposite of the lock. The back action percussion lockplate is engraved with professional scroll work as well as the hammer. The rifle features double set triggers and a silver plated brass sideplate. The silver plated brass trigger guard is engraved with matching scrolls. The buttplate, pierced engraved toeplate, the comb wear plate, wrist escutcheon and the two inlays behind on the left side of the butt are all German silver. There is a small patch box on the right side, the lid is engraved with a five point star. On the left side of the buttstock there is an ornately engraved silver inlay beneath the cheek piece and above the cheek piece is an engraved eagle. CONDITION: Barrels still have clear rifling and edges of barrels are extremely sharp. They appear to retain a brown finish, which was possibly applied later. There is some separation of the German silver rib around the bolster. Lock retains a brown surface and functions properly. Silver furniture retains a pleasing patina. Sideplate shows some flaking to original finish. Figured maple buttstock is very good, with some scattered marks from use and a minor hairline crack behind the barrel tang. Ramrod is probably a replacement. A very attractive and clean swivel breech rifle. DMG
