Properly marked low hump lock with "C.S./ RICHMOND V.A." ahead of the hammer. Dated 1863 vertically at the rear of the lock. No visible date on top of the barrel. VP proof is present. Rear sight is a replacement. Brass buttplate and nose cap. The lock cavity appears to have been opened a little on the inside and does not have a mules foot, nor does it have the cutout for a tape primer as would be found on an 1855 stock. Bands all have slightly offset "U"s. Hammer is offset and most likely a replacement of the period. Equipped with a black leather sling which is "US" marked. CONDITION: All metal surfaces have been cleaned with areas of light pitting here and there. The barrel has been bored out to approximately 65 caliber smoothbore. Wood has several small repairs along with dings and handling marks. Sling is pliable. GR
