Manufactured 1943 in Swissvale, PA by Union Switch and Signal Corporation. US&S was a railway equipment manufacturer in western PA who produced aircraft engines as well as other military equipage during World War I. US&S was the last manufacture to receive a contract for the 1911A1 pistol and they were made on a very limited production of 55,000 pistols. The entire production was inspected by Lt. Col, R.C. Downie USA. Light colored Du-Lite finish overall with frame inspected RCD in a circle and "P" proof below magazine release. Right side of frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY No 1074101" and "M 1911A1 US ARMY". Grips are brown plastic Keyes grips with reinforcement ribs. Hammer is short 1911A1 and hammer is flat checkered 1911A1 pattern. Slide is marked USS intertwined and "U.S.&S. CO.SWISSVALE PA. U.S.A." in two lines. Barrel is blue finish with "HS" markers mark on right side of trunnion and "P" on left side of trunnion. Magazine is all blue with "S" on upper lip. CONDITION: Very good and being all original the exterior Du-Lite finish is high point worn with over 90% remaining. The bore is excellent and the action operates properly. The grips are excellent and without distress. TDW
