According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms only about 1,000 of these rare rifles were produced during 1863-1864 under a US contract. 41" barrel, with square base front sight/bayonet lug and 2-leaf 3-position musket rear sight graduated to 500 yards. .58 caliber percussion. This unusual rifle was loaded using a dual/superposed load. The 2 hammers are cocked simultaneously. When the single trigger is pull first, the right hammer fires the front charge, second pull of the trigger releases the left hammer firing the rear charge. 1-piece full length walnut stock with 3 barrel bands. Tulip shaped ramrod stored in channel of forearm. The middle barrel band with sling provision. Trigger guard with sling provision. All metal finished bright. CONDITION:Fine overall. Metal has been re-polished bright. Wood has been lightly sanded. No inspection cartouches are visible. Bore is good with moderate abrasion. -MKS-
