Lot consists of (A) Smith Carbine made by Massachusetts Arms Co out of Chicopee Falls, MA. 21-5/8" half octagon to round barrel in .50 caliber. Standard carbine military type rear sight with blade front and military style buttplate. Plain wooden stock and forearm. CONDITION: Good below, with metal parts faded to a dove-gray patina. Significant wear and corrosion to barrel and left side of action. Storage and handling marks throughout. The bottom tang stock retaining screw is missing. Wood is very good as a modern replacement. Exhibits modest wear and dents and dings from handling. Buttplate does not fit well. Action works correctly but is loose. Bore is good with worn but crisp rifling and abrasion throughout. (B) Joslyn Model 1862 Carbine with 22" round barrel chambered in .52 Rimfire. Standard variable flip up rear sight and blade front. Standard plain walnut stock with saddle ring and military style buttplate marked "US" on upper tang. CONDITION: Very good as totally refinished with scattered storage marks. Crown of muzzle is uneven and there appears to have been an attempt to recrown the barrel at some point before the project was abandoned. Wood is good as sanded and refinished with modest wear and handling marks. Large crack at wrist of stock that appears to still be live. Action works correctly and is tight. Bore is bright with visible rifling and abrasion near crown. -TN-
