Made in 1904, this beautiful chain Damascus barreled gun has a concave matted top rib with brass front bead and rib legend of "HUNTER ARMS CO. FULTON, NY USA". Made with splinter forend that is checkered in three point pattern with banjo style roll type release and triangular ebony tip. Case hardened action is engraved in typical Grade II pattern with quail on left, ducks on right in circle surrounded by light scroll. Lockplates marked "L.C. Smith" at front. Made with double triggers, auto ejectors, and non-auto safety. Capped pistol grip buttstock is checkered in two point pattern through the wrist and terminates with the original lined composition buttplate. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain about 97% bold original chain Damascus pattern. The pattern has started to drift towards brown but is bold and vivid. Action retains about 80% original case color, particularly bold and vivid on lockplates, starting to tone on bottom. Trigger guard retains more than 1/2 of its original blue, toning to brown at tang, but strong on bow. Stocks are excellent with minor marks and impressions and are mostly sound and retain about 90% of their original finish with some finish added for preservation. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. A very fine early Smith! JSL
