Built on a small ring Mauser action with tapered round barrel engraved across top "John Rigby & Co 43 Sackville St. London", with island base front sight and soldered on sling eye on bottom of barrel. Protected bead front sight with Rigby sloped base. Dovetailed scope mounts applied through machine matting and at a later date. Rigby peep sight on cocking knob. Flag safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold and not shortened rendering it less than useful when scope mounted. Flattened bolt knob. Elongated tang safety with "S" in gold. Walnut stock with sling eye at toe and in forearm, checkered forearm, checkered flat horn cap pistol grip, and spliced in Monte Carlo cheekpiece, with clear splice on reverse but a cleverly hidden splice line in shadow line on obverse. Terminates in a black recoil pad with black line spacer. British proofs throughout, with London house NP proof ".275 "RIGBY LONDON" on right side barrel. Underside with further proofs including Nitro proof for .275 Rigby and import mark for British Sporting Arms, Millbrook, NY. Mounted with a Zeiss 1.5-6x42mm rifle scope with duplex reticle in the first focal plane on contemporary rings. CONDITION: Excellent as rehabilitated. Retains the vast majority of an old rebluing with some scattered handling marks to metal. Stocks are very good and were revarnished at one time, probably when rifle was reblued, with handling marks throughout. Checkering somewhat soft and with some minor abrasions. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent, bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves but some minor frosting. EW
